I mean, why couldn't Mulder and Scully be better at their job? They were the heroes, I was the bad guy, right? It was their job to save the world, mine to stand on the sidelines, offering the occasional cryptic message and then slinking back into the shadows. That was the way I liked it. Actually, I wasn't worried about saving the whole world. But there are parts of it which I wanted to preserve, and it looked like I was going to have to exert myself.
